About Me
Etienne Uzac, originating from Santiago, Chile, has traversed the globe making a name for himself as an innovative media entrepreneur. His journey first took him to South Africa and France, where he completed his high school studies at Lycée Stanislas Paris. This journey was succeeded by higher education at The London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.
His thirst for knowledge and experience led him to the United States, where he co-founded International Business Times (IBT) in New York in 2006. This digital media firm became a noteworthy provider of global business news in a wholly digital format. It changed its moniker to IBT Media and expanded its portfolio to include additional publications such as Medical Daily, Latin Times, and Player. One, and Fashion Times.
In 2013, Uzac took a step further to widen IBT’s scope by acquiring Newsweek Magazine. He channeled significant resources into the magazine’s revitalization, assembling a capable executive team to steer Newsweek toward its original glory. This team has kept Newsweek profitable since the end of 2014, transitioning it from an e-magazine to a complete news website with a resumed print edition.
IBT’s remarkable growth was boosted by proprietary technologies, offering it a competitive edge in digital publishing. It attracted a team of skilled journalists, securing numerous accolades, including 6 SABEWs, 1 Izzy, and 3 The Drum Online Media Awards. In 2016, Uzac stepped down from his position as CEO to focus on personal ventures, only to make a triumphant return in 2023.
Since its inception as a modest website, IBT has become a publisher offering comprehensive news coverage. It has made a name for its in-depth business coverage and insightful global news stories. IBT stands for its quality journalism and incisive commentary, consistently delivering business news often overlooked by others.
The publication embodies a forward-thinking approach, valuing truth in its reporting while championing global freedom. IBT diligently monitors the changing dynamics of the global economy, industry disruption from emerging technologies, and the consequential winners and losers.
From its humble beginnings as a one-page website, IBT has exponentially grown into a multi-faceted media company, reaching a broad audience in multiple countries and languages. It continues to ambitiously chart its future growth, initiating new national editions and expanding its product offering.
On the personal front, Uzac’s primary focus remains to steer the helm at IBT. He takes solace in his family and church in his spare time and enjoys swimming. He has a keen interest in understanding diverse cultures, a trait that significantly enhances his role as CEO of a multinational firm like IBT.
